Project description
Belwind II Offshore Wind Farm is located on the Blighbank in the Belgian part of the North Sea. Belwind II is the second development of the Belwind project, already comprising the Belwind I Wind Farm, which has been in operation since 2010. The Belwind II (BWII) wind farm will consist of 50 Vestas V112 3.3MW Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) and 1 Offshore High Voltage Substation (OHVS). The total installed capacity will be 165MW.
The support structure concept for the substation consists of placing the topside structure on two main crossing girders, which are supported on a monopile and transition piece. The total weight of the HVAC topside is 1,100 MT. The structure is located at a water depth of 30 m.
The monopile is driven in the ground and has a diameter of 4,500 mm on the top and a diameter of 6,800mm at the bottom. The I/J tubes are supported by a cage which is lowered on the monopile. Scour protection is required in order to prevent a scour hole to develop. The monopile and the transition piece have a bolted flange connection, which is protected from the outside environment by a grout skirt.
